Spring Bank Match -Norman Shippey Memorial

Sunday 19th March

Traditionally our first outing of the season, this popular bank fishing day is held at Elinor Fishery. Historically the fishing has always been superb at Elinor for this match with many anglers well into double figures.

This is a very sociable day with lots of help at hand for those that might need it. There is a Trophy (the Norman Shippey Trophy) for the most fish caught on the day, as most of us will fish C & R, we might also run a pool for the largest fish if people want to participate at £2 per head winner takes all.
This is a very relaxed day with fishing starting around 10.00 and finishing to about 16.00 or what is agreed on the day. For those who wish to join us, some of us meet at the Little Chef at Thrapston (J13 of the A14) just before 8am for Breakfast or just a coffee.

After the fishing we go to the pub for a drink, chat and results. If there is demand I might try and arrange some food probably sandwiches and chips. If you are wish to fish, please let me know. Also indicate if you are interested in some food afterwards, if there is enough interest I will try and arrange it.

Tuesday Evening Club Social Fishing at Grafham

Our Summer Evening Fishing at Grafham will start on Tuesday May 16th and then every Tuesday, finishing on August 15th.  Format is similar to last year. Anglian Water once again have agreed to give a free evening’s fishing to those who have done a course with Peter Hartley.

The Tuesday Evening League will run again, but participation is not obligatory. Scoring will be on numbers caught, no weigh in, best 10 results to count.

Many anglers arrive in good time so we are bringing the start time forward this year to 5.30pm., but there will be someone around until 6pm to organise boat pairings etc for those who cannot make it by 5.30. Boats will return at sunset, except the 3 longest evenings which would be 9.45 or possibly 10.pm.

An Anglian Water Season Ticket or day ticket will be required, also an Environment Agency Rod Licence. Evening boat cost is £6.50 per person.

Anglian Water have kindly agreed to provide a free boat ticket on any evening that 10 or more anglers are fishing. We will draw for this in the pub after fishing.  The Lodge Shop will be open until 5.30 pm.

We go to the Wheatsheaf  in Perry after fishing for a drink and sandwiches and chips. Please pay for sandwiches when you book in with the Wardens on arrival. Cost of sandwiches and chips is £5.00.

The aim of the series is to have some pleasant summer evenings fishing at Grafham (weather permitting!), rather than a serious competitive event, also to give those who have done a fly fishing course the opportunity to gain some experience. We all had to start somewhere.

The 2017 Pilgrimage, Grafham

25th and 26th May 2017

Pilgrimage Flags

Here is another date to add to your filling diaries, this years annual Pilgrimage.

I have booked boats on Graham for Thursday 25th (Practice day) and Friday 26th May (Match day) and booked the Wheatsheaf at Perry for the meal on Thursday evening following the practice. In the evening after the match on Friday we will have a dinner at the Racehorse in Catworth were there will be a range of prizes for the best bag and best boat etc. and the evening will be rounded off with the presentation of the trophy.

The event will be to the usual format with Invicta taking on our old friends Llanila from Wales and Leslie from Scotland. We have been fishing this event for over thirty years and we have come to know the characters in each team and enjoyed some memorable days on the water. One noticeable exception from the Llanilar team this year will be Tony Bevan who sadly died at the end of last year. Tony was a great fisherman and he won many prizes at this get together and is enthusiasm for fish had to be seen to be believed. He was not invincible however because the great Bob Ayres once beat him when fishing at Chew.

It is a thoroughly enjoyable couple of days and if you would like to experience the lovely people who come to this event would you please let me know and I will add you to our team.

Format is similar to last year. Anglian Water has once again agreed to give a free evening’s fishing to those who have done the beginners fly fishing course with Peter Hartley.

The Evening League element will run again in conjunction, but participation is not obligatory. Scoring will be on numbers caught, up to the fishery limit  with your best 10 scores over the 15 weeks to count.

The 2016 Pilgrimage, Grafham.

Steve MiddletonThe annual Pilgrimage took place at Grafham on Thursday and Friday the 26th and 27th of May. This friendly rivalry between Invicta and teams from Wales and Scotland has been an annual fixture since 1985. The two days follow the usual format ie. a practice day on Thursday with a meal in the evening and the informal match on Friday.

We have a meal at the Wheatsheaf on Thursday evening and then a dinner on Friday evening  at the Racecourse at Catworth organised by  Glyn from Llanilar .

The Pilgrimage is a very friendly event and over the years we have enjoyed the company of the 8 or 10 members from the Llanilar and Leslie clubs from Wales and Scotland. Socialising with some of the characters should not be missed so if you would like to fish next season, watch out for details nearer the time.
